Crow Scare: CROW SCARE

  • Gothicbob · 1 year ago
oh the protagonist is a thief, cool
  • Jon · 1 year ago
No, he's not a thief, he's a locksmith. He clearly stated that he didn't want to break into the old lady's house.
  • Dr. Nerball · 1 year ago
Oh of course he doesn't "want" to break into the old bag's house, of course, that won't stop him from doing it anyway, especially seeing as it looks like his boss is either going to lay a beat down on him or blackmail him. Either way the kid's breaking in.
  • Slowzombie · 1 year ago
Ok, say with me: heist gone wrong. Manslaughter by megacrow anyone?
  • WolfMan · 1 year ago
He doesn't THINK he can do it. He will though.
  • Dr. Nerball · 1 year ago
Hmm...actually I think ol' Slowzombie up there could be right, although at some point our old lock picking friend will have to meet up with our prisoner type switch blade weilding nut job. It's "fate" =P

Either that our their'll be a small band of crow attack survivor who are mocked and shunned by society because of their story, however they still kick crow-boys ass and live to tell the tale, but no-one will know of their heroism. How do I know the exact storyline? Hell, I'm just deep like that. Or maybe I've been spying on the writer. Oh, and there'll be a light sprinkling of romance somewhar's along the line.
  • Slowzombie · 1 year ago
It's called being Genre Savvy, doctor, and it's a sure sign you'll die early in a horror movie :P
  • Dr. Nerball · 1 year ago
Oh aye, I'm the equivilent of either A) The Black Guy, no racism there, it's just that they're always killed off first (or near enough) in true horror movies. Hell, even Dead Space Downfall, a manga horror got that right. =P Or B) The Funny Man, they always, always, ALWAYS die, not necessarily first, but once they do, just stop watching the movie, it takes an inevitable downwards spiral from there.

So yeah! I've posted one to many times down here, is there a forum around here where I can geek out about horror movies and whatnot?

Even though it seems as if the outcome of this request has already been predicted, I can't wait to see how it's executed
  • Gothicbob · 1 year ago
I still say he a thief, he just got morals, he steal from the rich and deserving but the old women life savings. a no no. robin hood type
  • Billy · 1 year ago
The black guy in Night of the Living dead makes it all the way to end before he's killed off, and don't say Night of the Living Dead isn't a true horror movie!
  • Leffy · 1 year ago
but Night of the Living Dead was the first of a new genre in horror films so it HAD to break precedents. and its also the first, and more a cult classic flick, that had every "good guy" you saw killed. not a one of the main characters you saw survived. especially since it wasn't even the "big bad" that killed the last survivor.
  • Dr. Nerfball · 1 year ago
Okay, fine, so you got me, I have a tendancy to watch the older horror films, although I will grant you that I did like Dog Soldiers and Black Sheep, and those aren't completely ancient are they?.... Oh don't you judge me, they're "classics" =P
  • Dr. Nerfball · 1 year ago
Ach! Curse you lack of real knowledge of the horror genre, I've only ever heard of the special edition (saw it once at a haloween party at work) which came out in...2005 I believe, never saw the rather more graphic origional until around fourty five minutes ago..... =P Not for the faint of heart. Wonder why my 15 year old brother had a copy of it...
  • Leffy · 1 year ago
because this new herd of teenagers are more blood thirsty then we are. and scarier all together. they're actually bringing back the eighties fashions we were too happy to escape. tell me THAT isn't a sign of the coming apocalypse.
  • Rik-chan · 1 year ago
As a teenager that loves horror genre I take offense to that.

I also defend myself by saying that the over the top gore flinging movies of today are NOT horror, more comical than anything. Then again, that might not 'defend' me, would it? Oh well.
  • Dr. Nerfball · 1 year ago
@ Leffy, If I told you it wasn't a sign of the oncoming apocalypse I'd be lying to you. Other signs include: A movie tie-in game being good, Christopher Paolini writing a book that isn't essentially a massive ego trip for his main character where anyone who isn't a toadying bootlicker to him gets the snot kicked out of his/her good self, oh, and Hugh Jackman staring in a good movie.

@Rik-chan, Well....saw Black Christmas about a week back, and I'm afraid I'd have to agree with you, not really any horror elements there that haven't been done bigger or better elsewhere. It's essentially an excuse to get blood on the big screen outside of the halloween months. Amusing for a party where all the guests are in varying levels of being completely smashed though. =D

Yeah, horror movies nowadays do cheapen the horror bit quite a lot. Of course not all. After five watchings, Rec (2007) still scares me five ways to Paris, Texas and back, and I'm definitely not easy to scare. I feel like an old whippersnapper, at the age of 19, when I talk about horror movies, but the main problem with the bad ones today seem to be that they either forget trying to makea buildup or makes the buildup so formulaic that it becomes predictable, or so poor it vanishes the second any sort of release happens. The really good horror movies stay with you after you exit the cinema, turn of the TV and most importantly the light, where you're left with yourself and the monsters.

But listen to me raving about horror movies like... a horror movie nerd :P
  • Billy · 12 months ago
    @ Leffy
I'm not arguing any of that, but it still doesn't change the fact that the black guy wasn't the first one to die. I was just pointing that out, since Dr. Nerfball said that happened in every true horror movie. I would've mentioned Deep Blue Sea (where the black guy actually survived the whole thing!), but I don't think that counts as a true horror movie...

    @ Dr. Nerfball
Don't sweat about it, I didn't see it until about 2 months ago anyway XD There are a lot of classic horror movies out there that I am yet to see...in fact, I didn't see the original Dawn of the Dead until a couple of hours ago.

    @Slowzombie
I agree, it seems like a lot of people making horror movies today aren't even trying to make a scary film; they want to satisfy those that are thirsty for blood and gore. While I enjoy gory films as much as the next teenager, gore alone doesn't make a movie scary. That doesn't have to be a bad thing, in case you still add something to make the film interesting. But merely throwing in one gory death after another without any story to it gets real boring, real quick.

I am pretty easy to scare (when alone in a dark room at night, at least) so maybe this doesn't say much coming from me, but Rec scared the shit out of me, even though I didn't watch it alone. It haunted me during the nights for weeks. Actually, I can only think of one other movie that's scared me when I've watched it with friends, and that is Stay Alive. Even then I think it was mostly because I'm normally really scared of horror games, and right before we were going to watch it my friend told me that I had to play Silent Hill right after we'd seen it...

when I was about ten, I didn't sleep for like two days after watching the "pinkeye" episode of south park. yeah, I'm a pussy.

That "the Black guy dies first" gag never made sense to me. In most of the cheap horror flicks, the Black Guy dies Third. the first one to die is the Least Interesting White Guy, followed quickly by the Most Irritating Female or the Pretty but Bland Female. Note that the priority list does not include various Red Shirts or Mooks, which may include Miscellaneous Locals or Redundant Soldiers.

Agreed, though, that most cheap horror flicks today are made by and for gore porn fans. No effort goes into budget, script, acting, props, extras, special effects--in the Sci Fi channel flicks, they seem to be deliberately avoiding originality. But, the shot of the guy getting his guts ripped out is always done with great skill and realism.
  • Slowzombie · 12 months ago
I dunno about the dies first thing, to my experience, females seem to live dangerously in the initial stages. Especially blondes if nothing else because the "Survivor Girl" is very often a brunette for some reason, at least in Slashers. Zombie movies is a bit more fair and equality-oriented in that respect, in that everyone pretty much is doomed to be zomibe chow :D
  • Dr. Nerfball · 12 months ago
Well! Seeing as it's up for debate, I'll throw my two cents worth into the ring. From my limited horror expertise, list of deaths usually goes in this order: 1. Generic Guy, usually has the blandest personality, or never gets named until his face is getting chewed off, at which point someone will shout <insert name here>!!!! Really loudly, attracting the hordes/killer/goons/scary little children thus causing the death of 2. either Black Guy/ Girl or Screaming Biddy, Black Guy, usually the joker of the group, makes the film interesting. Screaming Biddy, does exactly what it says on the tin, screams and brings zombies, then dies. In the head. 3. Whichever one didn't die at point 2 4. Love interest of Main Character or Self Sacrifice. Self sacrifices are fun, sometimes even the black guy, and almost always a badass or equiped with explosives and/or guns, lots of guns. 5. Whoever didn't die at point 4 6. Main character or villain. Usualy the main character though, I mean, who wants a happy ending to a depressing movie? Eh? EH?

If'n ya think I suck at making these lists, feel free to add to it or make your own, I' honestly vaguely interested to see what you all think.

Important to distinguish between standard "monster" movies and "slasher flicks." A monster movie can be all about the film makers inability to get dates with hot chicks in high school, but slasher flicks routinely are. Most producers of cheap horror at least try to get one or two male actors with some individual character, but With 10,000 or so generic pretty 20ish blondes running around Hollywood, the tendency to treat actresses as disposable props is a creep show all by itself.
